Smartwave 2400

Customers comments...

Just thought I would share a little story with you - an experience I had in our little Smartwave 2400 last weekend.

We have been using a number of engines on the SW2400, a Yamaha 2hp 2-stroke, Honda 2.3hp 4-stroke, and also, one of the very last Yamaha 5hp 2-strokes in the UK before it was discontinued.

As you can imagine, performance with the 5hp 2-stroke is pretty good - but just towards the end of last year, my Father bought a tiller extension so that you can sit on the middle seat instead of the rear seat, for better balance. He told me he reckoned he could get it going really fast when solo, but as I was always using it with at least 2 people on board, I never saw any breathtaking performance.

 That was until last Saturday.

Absolutely unbelievable. I was on the boat solo, flat calm, no wind, waves or tide. I'm a pretty stout bloke (if you remember) at just under 15 stone, and the little 5hp is only a single cylinder, so I didn't think the boat would ever make it "over the hump". Well, I was wrong!

I used my little Garmin 60CSx to measure true speed, and got 15mph average on several half mile runs, hitting a top speed of 16.5mph. Yup, 16.5mph!! Breathtaking. Our big boat will cruise at 30mph, so to be having more fun in the tender was outrageous!

And the Yamaha, being a 2-stroke, was quite happy to buzz along at full throttle for an hour, not a hint of overheating.

Not sure if hooliganism should be encouraged, but that's a real testament to what a brilliant design it is - planing at over 15mph with a 15-stone bloke on board, using a single cylinder 5hp engine!
